Eaglehawk, on Bendigo’s historic northern goldfields, is full of older character homes — Victorian and Federation cottages, weatherboards, and period brick. These homes can take solar beautifully, but the roof type and layout vary widely (steeper pitches, dormers, verandah returns), so each one needs a proper assessment rather than an off-the-truck array. We look at orientation, shading and tile or sheet condition before recommending a system.
Switchboard upgrades come first.
The single most common issue we find on older Eaglehawk homes is an ageing switchboard — ceramic-fuse boards, no main switch room, missing safety switches (RCDs). You cannot safely or compliantly connect solar to a board like that. We upgrade the switchboard to AS/NZS 3000 with proper circuit protection as part of the job, and quote it transparently as a line item rather than springing it on you mid-install.

Retrofitting solar to a heritage home is about respecting the roof while getting the most out of the sun. We plan panel placement to keep arrays off the street-facing heritage elevations where possible, route cabling neatly, and install to AS/NZS 5033 and AS/NZS 4777.
