Why “rain will clean it” isn’t the answer in Bendigo.
Rain rinses fresh dust; rain doesn’t lift bonded dust. - Soft-soap pre-soak only where deposits demand it - bird droppings, sap, baked-on pollen. Standard automotive wash soap is fine; never household dish detergent (too aggressive) and never solvents (frame seals).
- Pole-from-ground or proper roof anchor - we don’t walk on panels (manufacturer warranty void) and we don’t pressure-wash (frame-seal water ingress).
What voids the warranty - the things to avoid.
- Pressure washers (Karcher, Gerni etc.) - forces water under the frame and into the junction box. Voids most major-brand warranties (Jinko, Trina, LONGi all spell this out).
- Walking on the panel surface - even briefly. Micro-cracks in the cells from foot-load show up as hot-spots on a thermal inspection 6 months later.
- Dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, ammonia-based glass sprays - either strips the anti-reflective coating or eats the frame seal.
- Cleaning a hot panel - thermal-shock cracking on the glass. Early morning before the sun heats the surface, or late afternoon, only.
Q: Wet clean or dry clean - which for Bendigo dust?
Wet clean with deionised water and a soft brush, almost always. Bendigo dust is fine paddock topsoil that bonds to the glass when humidity drops - a dry brush just smears it. Pressure washing is banned outright (forces water under frame seal, voids warranties).
